Puppet
We had a group project to create a short film. We were collbarated with two set design students who created the set while three technical arts students including myself created a puppet each, before we starting creating our puppets and set, together we discussed our ideas and designs,making sure they suited eachother. We then create a script and agreed on the overall finish we all wanted to achieve.
My puppet was the main character, lost in a new world trying to remember her past. The film reveals her journey with friends to discover her true idenity. I created a hybrid creature using basic materials to achieve my look. my puppet was called 'Vivienne' which means lady of the lake. My creature was part frog which was a sculpted head, paper mache and latex to create the slimy, wet finish. Part pond skater for which i used wooden spoons with a door hinges to create the movement. Part duck with webbed feet made from a wire armature coated in latex pigmented fabric and finally part water rat which was her tailed made from string coated in latex wrapped around tights to create the correct shape. she had one frog like hand made from wire and latex. The other hand was a washing up scrubber brush, to hint at her previous life role, a laundry lady as well as her dirty pillow case dress and j-cloth neck scarf.
